Balance - The Art of Facial Harmonizing

What is balance? We think of balance in many different aspects of life. We have to balance to stand and walk. We need work/life balance for our emotional wellbeing. We should eat a balanced diet. Have you ever thought of perceived beauty in terms of balance? One of the many definitions provided in Webster's Dictionary for the word balance is: an aesthetically pleasing integration of elements.

Facial balancing or facial harmonizing looks at every detail of the face from the forehead to the chin and utilizes surgical or non-surgical methods to ensure each feature of the face is proportionate and balanced.

Sometimes we are born with features that throw off balance and proportions, such as a recessed chin, a disproportionately thin upper lip, or uneven eyebrows. However, the aging process in the face begins disrupting the balance and proportions of the face as well.

As we age, especially in women, we think about our bone density. We have bone remodeling throughout our body, including our facial structure and support such as the skull, cheekbones, and chin. We have a slowing down of our collagen production beginning just after our teens, and as we age the skin becomes increasinly lax. We also have changes in the fat pads of our face, as some fat pads become thinner, and some will descend or drop without less skeletal support and weaker ligaments and skin. You will start noticing segmentations in the face, especially the mid-face area, and sagging in the lower face.

Our nurse practitioner, Trisha Kennedy Roman, MSN, FNP-BC, NP-C, focuses on these subtle changes that come with facial aging with her signature Subtle Reverse 180. She will analyze each individual's face and study proportions, light reflection, symmetry, and ratios. Her treatment plans are very individualized with a goal to balance and restore a natural looking you! Her belief is that a face should never look like it has been "filled", rather just look more youthful, refreshed, and harmonized.
